GOOGLE PAID TRIBUTE TO NOBEL LAUREATE WANGARI MAATHAI

Google paid tribute to Nobel laureate Wangari Maathai on Monday, replacing the logo on its search homepage for Kenya with an image of the late environmentalist who died on 25 September 2011.

The special doodle was meant to commemorate what would have been Maathai’s 73rd birthday.

Google filled the second “O” in the company’s logo with an image of a smiling Maathai. The other words are embellished with tree leaves, signifying Maathai’s lifelong commitment to planting trees and environmental conservation.
